How to Find Your HS Code for Jordan, Step by Step.

Jordan Customs publishes its full tariff online. This guide shows how to find your product's line, its duty and its sales tax there, and what to send us when you want the classification checked before the goods ship.

Export crates marked and stacked for shipment

Every product crossing a border is declared under a Harmonized System code. The first six digits are the same in every country that applies it; national tariffs add further digits below that, and it is the code, not the wording on your invoice, that the duty rate attaches to.

Jordan Customs lists each tariff line in its Integrated Customs Tariff with an 11-digit code, the description and the duty rate. This page does not copy that tariff: it links to it, so the figures you read are always the official ones.

Finding the Code in the Jordan Customs Tariff.

Five steps from the tariff's front page to the duty and tax on your line.

  • 1 · Open the Integrated Customs TariffThe tariff sits on the Jordan Customs services site and is browsed from 21 sections down to the individual tariff lines. Open the Integrated Customs Tariff
  • 2 · Choose the sectionSections group goods by what they are made of or what they do. Section 16, for example, holds machinery and electrical equipment in chapters 84 and 85.
  • 3 · Choose the chapterThe chapter number is the first two digits of the code. Opening a chapter lists every tariff line in it, page by page.
  • 4 · Read the whole lineEach line shows an 11-digit code, the description and the duty rate. Read the full description: lines under the same heading are split by power, weight, use or who imports the goods, and the rate can differ between them.
  • 5 · Open the line's detailsThe detail view of a line shows its duties and taxes: the unified duty rate and the general and special sales tax rates that apply.

Why the Right Line Matters.

It is the code, not the wording on your invoice, that the duty rate attaches to.

  • DutyThe unified duty rate on the line is applied to a customs value built from the price paid for the goods. How clearance works
  • Sales taxGeneral sales tax and any special sales tax are set per tariff line and shown in the line's details.
  • Permits and restrictionsSome restrictions and permits attach to the goods themselves rather than to the tariff line. Jordan Customs lists import restrictions and prohibitions on its trade information portal. Restrictions and prohibitions
  • Origin and trade agreementsPreferential treatment under a trade agreement depends on the goods meeting its rules of origin. The tariff's applied agreements list carries each agreement with its rules of origin and certificate of origin. Applied agreements

Have the Classification Checked.

We prepare the classification and the technical detail that supports it; the authority at the port of entry rules on it.

  • What to sendA plain description of the product, what it is made of and what it is used for, photos or a specification sheet, the draft invoice, and the country of origin.
  • What you get backThe classification we intend to declare, with duty and tax calculated on it, so you see the landed cost before the declaration is filed rather than after release. Send us your product details
  • The China code is not the Jordan codeThe first six digits are the same in every country that applies the Harmonized System; the digits after them are national, so the code on a Chinese export declaration cannot simply be reused in Jordan.

HS Code Questions.

How many digits does a Jordanian HS code have?

Lines in the Jordan Customs Integrated Customs Tariff carry 11-digit codes. The first six digits are the international Harmonized System code; the rest are national.

Can I use the HS code my Chinese supplier gave me?

Only the first six digits carry over. The national digits after them differ from country to country, and they are where the Jordanian duty rate and sales tax are set.

Who decides the final classification?

The customs authority at the port of entry rules on it. We prepare the classification and the technical detail that supports it before the goods ship.

Does the tariff show sales tax as well as duty?

Yes. A line's detail view shows the unified duty rate together with the general and special sales tax rates that apply to it.

Why doesn't this page list the tariff itself?

The tariff belongs to Jordan Customs and is kept up to date there, so we link to the official source instead of copying it. The figures on the customs site are the current ones.
